INDIANAPOLIS -- Five years after he was shot and killed during a traffic stop, the foundation started in honor of IMPD Officer David Moore is coming to a close.
Moore's parents, both veterans of IMPD, say it's simply time for them to move on.
"Next month will mark the 5th anniversary of David's sacrifice for the city and people he loved," Jo and Spencer Moore wrote on a Facebook page dedicated to their son's memory. "During that time his foundation has enjoyed the labor of maintaining David's legacy of service. Many programs and projects benefited from the support you have provided the foundation over those years. Now it is time to move on."
Moore was killed in January 2011 by 61-year-old Thomas Hardy, who he had pulled over for a traffic stop. Hardy pled guilty to the murder and was sentenced in 2012 to life without parole.

Moore was an organ donor. After his death, the Indiana Organ Procurement Organization said between eight-to-10 patients from Indiana and other states received Moore's organs.
