INDIANAPOLIS — A deputy who was investigated after an inmate escaped custody and led police on a brief chase has received punishment.

Deputy Earnest Wesley was placed on 64 hours of administrative leave, received an 80 hour suspension without pay and was reassigned from jail transportation to Eskenazi Hospital, Marion County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Katie Carlson said.

Carlson also said Sergeant Brian Tharp and civilian employee Clayton Compton received written letters of discipline for their permanent personnel files.

Officers arrested Kollin Triggs on warrants out of Boone County on May 8 and were preparing to transfer him there when he was able to get free and run from the garage. Triggs ran to a nearby heliport where he carjacked a woman and stole her car.

Triggs was arrested again 45 minutes later near 34th and Denny Streets.
