INDIANAPOLIS — As of Monday, the Ditch Road bridge over Interstate 465 on the north side is closed for replacement and the addition of sidewalks.

RTV6 went out to see how the first morning commute shaped up for drivers and found that many people just didn’t know about it. So here’s all you need to know to get around it.

"No, I did not," Chris Cyrus, a Fishers resident, said when asked if he knew about the closure.

Cyrus turned around when he saw the road closed sign. He said it would probably add a couple of minutes to his commute.

Cyrus wasn’t the only one unaware of the closed bridge. Turnarounds were a familiar sight, as drivers were caught off guard by the closure.

RTV6 witnessed dozens of cars pulling this move.

Cyrus told us he’s happy to hear that there will be sidewalks added, even if it means adding precious minutes to his drive.

"I see some pedestrian traffic on this bridge and sometimes it makes me nervous, so I think it's a good thing,” Cyrus said.

During construction, drivers will need to take Ditch Road to 86th Street, turn left to go northbound on Spring Mill Road, left to go westbound on 96th Street, and right to return to Ditch Road, and vice versa if you’re coming from the opposite side.

One thing you shouldn’t do is stop on the edge of the roundabout right before turning onto Ditch Road.

The Indiana Department of Transportation is expecting this closure will continue through Sept. 30.
