MORRISTOWN, Ind. – Employees at an Indy animal rescue spent days trying to capture a dog who had been shot by his owner.
The teams at Indy Great Pyreness Rescue and FIDO spent 10 days trying to earn the trust of Roscoe so he could get the help he needed to heal his gun shot wounds.
Angie List, with FIDO, was notified in late May that Roscoe needed assistance.
“He got shot by his owner who was moving,” said List.
The volunteers set up a large trap in Morristown hoping to capture the dog. The team said the dog ran about a mile away and was found in a barn after his shooting.
Roscoe finally entered the trap Wednesday night around 9:30 p.m., List said.
Volunteers said they still aren’t sure why the dog was shot, although the owner told animal control he wanted to put the dog down because he was previously attacked.
“He'd been kind of labeled as an aggressive dog and he was the furthest thing from that,” said List. “He had a family that was leaving and didn't want to take him with them."
Despite multiple calls to the owner, none were returned to RTV6.
Roscoe has been put on antibiotics and will complete up to three months of rehab before he is ready for adoption.
