INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis man came home Friday morning to find his dog beaten and stabbed.
Andy Mercado lives in the 1000 block of N. Mount Street.
Mercado says he normally lets his dogs out for about 40 minutes between the time he goes to work and the time when his wife gets home, but on Friday she got off work later than normal.
He told police a day before Simba was attacked, someone threatened to kill the dog because he was barking.

Both of Simba's back legs were broken and he was stabbed several times in the front of his legs.
His paw was also shattered.
Corrective surgery was needed to save Simba's leg, but it still may need to be amputated.
Andy Mercado says he keeps dogs inside now.
