INDIANAPOLIS — Right now, it's just an unassuming speck of grass and trees tucked away on the southeast edge of downtown Indianapolis. But it could soon be the first dog park in the downtown area.
A fundraising campaign's goal is to help finance a dog park on Prospect Street near East Street next to Immanuel United Church of Christ, which owns the land.
Organizers hope to raise $33,000 by September 25 in order to receive a matching grant from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority.
With so many dog owners living in apartments in the downtown area, the need for a dog park has been clear.
If all goes well, the Downtown Indy Dog Park Coalition could break ground on the project in October.
