SWAT standoff in Westfield ends in arrest

INDIANAPOLIS ---A domestic disturbance turned into a SWAT standoff in Westfield Friday night. 

Westfield police were called to the 1700 block of Burntwood Way at approximately 11:23 p.m. on a report of a domestic disturbance between a husband, James A. Hamer, 54, and his wife.

Officers say Hamer first pointed a gun at his wife causing her to leave the residence. Police also say Hamer was suicidal.

The Noblesville/Westfield Emergency Service Unit and negotiation team were called after officer heard a gun shot come from the residence. Police then deployed tear gas into the home causing Hamer to exit the residence with no self-inflicted injuries. 

Police took Hamer into custody and transported him to the Hamilton County Jail. Hamer is facing preliminary charges of criminal recklessness, intimidation, pointing a firearm, and resisting law enforcement.
