INDIANAPOLIS — With the pandemic forcing the cancellation of so many events, it's encouraging to see one that will take place.

Downtown Indy, Inc. and the Arts Council of Indianapolis have teamed up on what's called "Arts Market on the Circle." The first is August 20 from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m., then September 17 and October 15. All are on the southwest quadrant of Monument Circle.

Twenty artists and crafters will offer unique creations including handmade masks, jewelry, home decor, paintings, ceramics, artisan soaps and body-care products, clothing, macramé and more. The Arts Council will sell Welcome Race Fans posters and will host a raffle to give away a $150 print of an iconic “Welcome Race Fans” artwork.

“This effort is part of our Downtown Recovery efforts, which will include expanded safety and security, homeless outreach and support and new, outdoor events,” said Sherry Seiwert, president of Downtown Indy, Inc. “Residents and employees really enjoy the weekly Original Farmers’ Market on Monument Circle and have been seeking additional outdoor events."

"The new Arts Market on the Circle is an effort to put our proverbial ‘toe in the water’ amidst so many postponements and cancellations, while encouraging folks to enjoy downtown and support local artisans. We also encourage all attendees to stop by their favorite restaurant and grab a bite to complete the experience.”

"Artists have told us they're looking for any opportunity to keep doing what they do best - to keep creating," said Shannon Linker, vice president and director of Artist Services for the Arts Council of Indianapolis. "For many, this will be their first time at an arts event since March, and they're incredibly excited to be in a beautiful outdoor location like Monument Circle and ready to engage with the public and share their latest work."

Exhibitors and guests at the Arts Market on the Circle will be required to wear masks and practice social distancing.
