INDIANAPOLIS — A day of remembrance Saturday for family and Friends of Dreasjon Reed, the young man killed by Indianapolis police last month following a chase.

The gathering took place on the city's northwest side, near where Reed, who would have turned 22 next week, died in early May.

There was music and food and an all-around good time, a change from the crying and mourning seen at the same location in recent weeks.

"The day should run smoothly. We have a plan. We are going to yell, we will scream and eat good," said event organizer Joshua Griffin. "We will celebrate because we got the names, and like I said, it's about life. It is not as hot as it has been, so today was the perfect day to do it."

The names Griffin referred to are the police officers involved in the shooting, which were released this week. The case remains under investigation and a special prosecutor has been named.

At West 62nd Street and Michigan Road, the Celebration of Life spilled out into the street, which was closed off.

For those who attended the event, Dreasjon Reed will forever be 21.
