HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. -- A man who was airlifted to Eskenazi Hospital Thursday after crashing into a truck on U.S. 31 has died.

Police said the collision occurred shortly after 2 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 31 and 236th Street in Hamilton County.

A Freightliner truck being driven by Bryan Hobbs, 57, of Converse, Indiana, was stopped at a red light when a white Ford crashed into the back of it.

The driver of the Ford, later identified as Rogelio Diaz, 43, was trapped in the van and suffered serious injuries, including burns to his legs.

Police said several motorists stopped to help before emergency responders arrived.

Diaz was taken to the hospital, but died late Thursday night.

The driver of the Freightliner was not injured in the crash.
