Driver goes around stopped bus, collides with ambulance carrying patient

INDIANAPOLIS — A vehicle and an ambulance collided on Monday after a driver went around a stopped bus.

Indianapolis Fire Department PIO Rita Reith said a 66-year-old driver went around a stopped IndyGo bus at 16th Street and College Street and collided with the EMS ambulance in the intersection. The ambulance was enroute to the emergency room at Eskenazi Hospital with a patient in serious condition.

the driver of the car and the IEMS medic were transported to the hospital with slight injuries to be checked out. The patient that was being transported was transferred to another ambulance and taken to the hospital. They did not suffer any further injury from the crash.

The firefighter who was driving the IEMS will be checked out but did not suffer any known injuries. The firefighter was also administered a breath test at the scene which registered a 0.0.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the crash. It is unclear if any charges will be filed at this time.
