JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. -- A Johnson County construction project has created unforeseen problems for dozens of homeowners.
Residents along Whiteland Road say hundreds of cars every day are damaging their yards and occupying their driveways to turn around after ignoring construction barricades.
Whiteland Road is closed at Graham Road while crews work to put in a roundabout. Motorists unaware of the detours or unwilling to follow them are driving past the warning signs only to run out of road a few hundred yards later.
Emily Wood says one day she counted 200 cars using her yard and driveway to turn around. Her lawn is torn up, and she and her neighbors are fed up.
The Woods even have pictures of semi-trucks reaching the dead end with no ability to turn around.
Town officials say they will post an added police presence in the area. The construction project is scheduled to wrap up in mid-June.
