ELWOOD — A 59-year-old Elwood man died in an apartment fire Monday night.
Capt. Shawn Lear of the Elwood Fire Department said firefighters responded to the call at 6:12 p.m. and found heavy smoke and flames coming out the windows of the apartment at 1638 South B Street.
Lear said firefighters learned someone might be inside when they arrived and went in to do a search. The man was found and declared dead at the scene.
Elwood is located about 50 miles northeast of Indianapolis.
