INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Former Indiana Republican chairman Eric Holcomb has been sworn in as the state's new lieutenant governor.
Holcomb took the oath of office during a Statehouse ceremony Thursday afternoon, a few hours after the Indiana House and Senate confirmed his nomination by Gov. Mike Pence.
Holcomb replaces Sue Ellspermann in a rare midterm transition for the state's No. 2 office.
Pence cited Holcomb's experience as a top aide to former Gov. Daniels and U.S. Sen. Dan Coats as helping prepare him for the position.
Ellspermann resigned from office Wednesday and is applying to become Ivy Tech Community College's new president.
