MARION — Marion Fire Department crews responded to a large-scale fire at the VA Hospital on Saturday morning.
The fire broke out at approximately 6:30 a.m., affecting engineering buildings 51, 52, and 53, Marion FD said.
By the afternoon, the department said it successfully contained the blaze. Crews worked to prevent the fire from spreading and protect critical infrastructure at the medical facility.
No injuries or fatalities were reported in connection with the incident, according to VA officials. Patient healthcare operations have not been impacted by the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with local fire investigators currently on the scene conducting their examination.
As a result of fire suppression efforts, there may be a temporary loss of water supply to the main campus. Officials said bottled water and handwashing stations have been deployed across all remaining Marion campus areas as a precautionary measure.
VA officials emphasized that there is currently no safety impact to patient healthcare despite the temporary water supply concerns.
This is a developing story as the investigation continues.
