Fire damages south side Indianapolis abandoned motel

INDIANAPOLIS — The cause of a fire at an abandoned south side Indianapolis motel is under investigation.

The two-alarm Friday afternoon blaze at the former Best Inn on South Harding Street took 45 minutes to get under control, according to a public information officer with the Indianapolis Fire Department. IFD was assisted by Decatur and Wayne townships.

Firefighters arrived to find flames shooting from two second floor units in one building.

No injuries were reported. The location on South Harding is just north of the busy interchange with I-465.
