Fire on Indy's east side destroys four apartments, damages eight

INDIANAPOLIS – Four apartment units were destroyed and eight suffered damages after a fire broke out at an apartment complex on Indy’s east side Saturday afternoon.

Indianapolis Fire Department responded to a call of an apartment fire with entrapment at Pangea Courts Apartments shortly after 12:30 p.m.

Firefighters found heavy fire and smoke coming from third floor windows and immediately began work to control the fire. The fire started in the unit at 4407 Linwood Court.

The people living in the unit said they smelled smoke coming from their mother’s room, and when they went over to see what was going on, they found fire coming from the closet and one of the occupants’ 4- year-old son hiding under a blanket by the side of the bed.

After grabbing the child to leave the building, they notified others of the fire. No one was hurt.

Assistance was called to help those displaced by the fire, which is currently under investigation.
