INDIANAPOLIS — An indianapolis newborn will have quite the story to tell when she gets older. She was not delivered by doctors and was not born in a hospital.

A family flagged down police near Raymond Street and State Avenue on the southeast side Monday morning. The mother was in labor, and they were on their way to the hospital but couldn't make it.

The officers helped prepare the woman for delivery and firefighters helped bring the baby girl into the world.

"Honestly, mom did all the work," firefighter Jon Keiser said. "We're just there to help and assist."

"This was their second child, and her eldest was in the backseat, so the whole family was there. Dad was there," firefighter Tim Lavin said. " Instead of being at the hospital, it was in the front seat of their car."

Mom and baby Willow are healthy and doing well.
