FISHERS, Ind. – A Fishers man plans to spend several days sleeping on the roof of a parking garage to bring awareness to mental health issues.
Executive Director of Youth Mentoring Initiative, Todd Melloh, has spent three days on top of The Edge Building parking garage with a goal of signing up new mentors. He said he does not plan to come down until he has 100 new mentors for this upcoming school year.
“I’m trying to break stigma around needing a mentor,” said Melloh. “It’s not weakness, it’s a strength.”
There are already 200 mentors working in 10 Hamilton Southeastern Schools weekly, but Melloh said there is a need for more. In the past five years, Fishers has had over 55 suicides.
“I’m not asking them to fix kids,” he said. “Just share one hour a week during the school year.”
