FISHERS, Ind. -- Fishers police have marked several milestones thanks to their innovative crime-fighting app.
When the department launched the Fishers CrimeWatch app a few months ago, they say they didn't know what to expect. Now they say it's doing exactly what they'd hoped.
Police say they've had 260 reports come in through the app already, and now have about 3,000 users. And this week, someone made a report on the app that led to an OWI arrest.
"Someone used the app to report an erratic driver," said Fishers Police Officer Shawn Wynn. "An officer was nearby and got the license plates from the app, found the vehicle, pulled it over, there was an OWI investigation that lead to the driver's arrest."
Police note the app does track IP addresses to help prevent people from making false reports.
