FISHERS, Ind. – A dozen sculptures resembling the human brain were placed around Fishers to promote mental health education.
The Fishers Mental Health Taskforce coordinated with area hospitals, law enforcement and schools to find solutions to end the number of suicides in their community.
“My son has had a few kids his age die by suicide and as a mother, I cannot imagine what that would be like to plan your child’s funeral,” said Suzanne Clifford, CEO of Inspiring Transformations.
Each sculpture comes with a message to encourage the community to dive into what can be an uncomfortable conversation.
“We can teach people CPR, so there is no reason we can’t teach people how to help someone with a mental health issue,” said Fishers Fire Chief Steven Orusa. “We want to prevent death by suicide and we want the whole community to embrace that.”
Phase two will move the sculptures into Hamilton Southeastern Schools, which will give students a chance to learn about mental health.
