COLUMBUS, Ind. -- The former narcotics supervisor for the Columbus Police Department was arrested Wednesday on charges of stealing drugs from the evidence room.
Jeremy R. Coomes, 38, of Columbus, faces a range of felony and misdemeanor counts, including possession of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine, theft and official misconduct.
Coomes served as the supervisor of the Columbus Police Department's Narcotics Unit from December 2011 until October 2015.
An audit conducted of the department's evidence room in October 2015 showed turned up "discrepancies," including various drugs found to be missing.
An Indiana State Police detective investigating the case says it appears Coomes removed drugs from the evidence room and never returned them, and in some cases returned different items than what he took out.
Coomes was being held at the Bartholomew County Jail.
