INDIANAPOLIS -- A former middle school teaching assistant has been arrested after police say he had sex with student.
Investigators met with the 15-year-old victim and her mother at St. Vincent on June 9.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the mother said she thought her daughter was having sex with Demario Thomas, 29, but the teen denied it.
A second meeting with detectives took place on June 15.
The victim told detectives that she'd known Thomas for three years and that he was a student teacher at Westlane Middle School.
The probable cause says the victim told detectives the two had sex and that Thomas knew how old she was.
Thomas also acknowledged the victim's age according to the affidavit.
He told detectives that he is in love with the victim and did not have a relationship with any other student.
Police say Thomas met the victim at the school where he worked, but the sexual relationship didn't begin until after he resigned his teaching assistant job in April.
A spokeswoman for Washington Township schools released this statement Monday:
Demario Thomas worked in Washington Township from August 20, 2012 - April 22, 2016 at Westlane Middle School. During this time, Washington Township Schools had no reports of inappropriate relations with students. He resigned his position on his own accord on April 22, 2016.
