CARLISLE — An inmate's death at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility is under investigation by state police.

The state prison is located in Sullivan County, south of Terre Haute.

Foul play is suspected in the death of 57-year-old Kevin Carpenter of Churubusco, in northern Indiana. He had been an inmate at Wabash Valley since 2011.

According to state police, members of the Wabash Valley Correctional staff found Carpenter unresponsive in his cell early Sunday morning. First aid was given, but Carpenter did not survive.

An autopsy was conducted Monday at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. Final results are still pending.
