Four injured after getting hit, dragged by golf cart at IMS

SPEEDWAY, Ind. -- Four people were injured after they were hit and dragged by a golf cart at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday. 

The incident happened around 1 p.m. in one of the pedestrian walkways just off 16th Street. 

The Speedway Police Department said a man drove the golf cart into the pedestrian tunnel, hitting and dragging four people who were walking. 

Those golf carts are not allowed on sidewalks or pedestrian walkways at the track. 

The four people were all taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

The driver of the golf cart, Colonious Thomas, 40, of Noblesville, was arrested and preliminarily charged with leaving the scene of a crash while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury and operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury.

The incident remains under investigation by the Speedway Police Department.
