INDIANAPOLIS -- The possibilities of 3D printing are practically endless – including fabricating new knees for patients who need them.
Mike Niemeier was one of those patients. The tennis enthusiast and budding golfer got a new, 3D-printed knee three months ago.
Dr. Michael Meneghini was a principle designer of the model Niemeier received. Meneghini said the procedures he's performing now are just the beginning.
"We could make the implant exactly the way they need it, specifically for them," Meneghini said. "That's years off in the future."
In the meantime, Neimeier says he's thankful to be active with less pain.
"I feel like I have another 20 years of tennis in me, and I want a knee that will carry me through that time," he said.
