MUNCIE, Ind. – Friends of the Muncie teen who died after being electrocuted Sunday gathered to remember their former football teammate and coach.
Alexander James Cullum, 19, came into contact with a power line after his minivan struck a utility pole in Muncie. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
One of Cullum’s close friends, Nick Early, said he had spoken to him about 12 hours before the accident. Early said Cullum was dressed up and preparing to take his girlfriend to a family wedding.
Last year Cullum was a linebacker for Wes-Del High School where Early served as his coach. Cullum then later coached the middle school football team after graduating.
The two worked out together every morning before Cullum headed to Ivy Tech for classes, Early said.

"We were hoping to teach and coach together for a long time,” said Early.
Delaware County Sheriff Ray Dudley believes because it was dark out, Cullum may not have seen the wires that fell after the crash and may have touched one.
"The way currents run with electricity it's better to stay right where you're at,” said Dudley.
Monday morning, football coaches and players met at Paul L. Parker Field to honor Cullum.
“Our motto was to just put your best foot forward, and do what you need to do to get better every day because that's what he would have wanted,” said Early. "He was a heck of a guy. Everyone loved him."
