GARY — Police have arrested the president of the Gary City Council for allegedly taking the law into his own hands.
Investigators say Ron Brewer fired gunshots at teenagers he accused of stealing his car over the weekend. Police say Brewer also briefly kidnapped one of those teens.
Police arrested Brewer on Sunday, but so far he has not been formally charged.
Police say he and his wife tracked down their stolen car to East Chicago and that Brewer fired shots at the teens inside.
Brewer is then accused of grabbing one of the teens and taking him back to Gary.
Brewer's attorney is defending his actions by claiming the Gary councilman was making a legal citizen's arrest.
