MADISON COUNTY, Ind. – A Gas City man died Friday afternoon during a traffic stop, and a death investigation is underway by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.

Nico Vasquez, 25, died June 30 around 3 p.m. during a traffic stop with the Alexandria Police Department. He had been pulled over for speeding.

Scott Mellinger, the Madison County Sheriff, said there was no physical altercation between Vasquez and officers. Soon after being cited into court for driving on a suspended license, he was waiting on someone to pick him up. While still at the scene of the traffic stop, he fell into a semi-conscious state Mellinger said.

Vasquez was taken to Community Hospital in Anderson where he died.
