INDIANAPOLIS — One of the highlights of the church summer festival season is coming up this week, and we got a taste of what you'll get to enjoy at the Strawberry Festival.

The 54th annual Christ Church Cathedral Women's Strawberry Festival is Thursday on Monument Circle. Today, they gave us a preview of what they'll be serving up.

Desserts range from $2 to $7 for "the works" with strawberries, shortcake, whipped topping and ice cream. It's a cash-only event, and once the costs of the festival are covered, everything that's left gets donated back into the community.

"Last year, we were able to donate, I think, around $70,000 to all kinds of organizations that help women, children and general human needs organizations around the city, state and the world," Elise Schrock, a Christ Church Cathedral parishioner, said.

They'll start serving an estimated six tons of strawberries and 18,000 homemade shortcakes at 9 a.m. Thursday. They'll plan to dish it out until 4 p.m., but they usually sell out before that.
