MARION, Ind. -- General Motors will invest $85 million in its Marion plant, which will keep the jobs of 1,200 employees in Indiana.
The proposal to spend $85 million over the next 10 years for new tools and equipment at the Marion stamping plant went before the city council two months ago.
Councilwoman Lynn Johnson says the deal gives the option of adding another 100 jobs to the facility as well.
"We're contributing our tax dollars to make sure they are a successful venture," Johnson said.
Johnson says an official announcement on the deal is expected next week.
GM's Marion plant provides blanks, stamping and sheet metal assembly for cars, vans and trucks in production in North America.
GM has a significant footprint in Indiana. The company has four facilities in the state – in Marion, Kokomo, Bedford and Fort Wayne – and employs about 7,200 Hoosiers.
