INDIANAPOLIS—Good news for Indianapolis drivers. The Indiana Department of Transportation says I 70 westbound between the South Split and I 465 on the west side is reopening Friday afternoon.
That's two days ahead of schedule, after the road was shut down for extensive repairs.
Eastbound lanes remain closed.
The highway was shut down in both directions last Friday, creating major headaches for drivers forced on to city streets or the congested highway detour.
According to INDOT, "Prime contractor E & B Paving and its subcontractors worked around the clock to complete asphalt paving, concrete pavement restoration, joint replacement and other repair work to improve conditions and extend the life of I 70."
Eastbound work continues and INDOT says those lanes will reopen no later than early Monday morning.
