FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Governor Pence hit the campaign trail in Indiana urging Hoosiers to spread the word about Donald Trump.

"I truly do believe to know Donald Trump is to know somebody who embodies the spirit of America: strong, freedom-loving, independent and optimistic," Governor Pence said during his visit on Friday.

He spoke before a crowd of nearly 300 people in Fort Wayne, telling them that this election has "enormous" consequences. He says it will come down to rebuilding the military and strengthening the economy.

"Here in Indiana, we have demonstrated you can live within your means, you can let people keep more of what they earn. You can balance budgets, make strong reserves, still make record investments in education," he said.

Pence also made a pitch for Lieutenant Governor Eric Holcolb to succeed him and for Congressman Todd Young to become Indiana's next US Senator.

Friday's appearance is expected to be one of Pence's final public appearances before the Vice Presidential Debate which will air on RTV6 on Tuesday at 9 p.m.
