INDIANAPOLIS -- Gov. Mike Pence honored long-time radio host and community leader Amos Brown this week with the Sachem Award – Indiana's highest honor.
Pence credited Brown as "an extraordinary man of extraordinary vision" during the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Indiana Holiday Celebration at the Statehouse.
"He was that unique individual who could passionately advocate for that which he believed, but do so with a tender heart, and a heart that was deeply caring for everyone that he encountered," Pence said.
Brown spent 40 years in Indianapolis radio. He passed away unexpectedly in November.
Brown was known as an education advocate and a champion for equal rights.
