YORKTOWN — Yorktown's new town hall is open for business and a public celebration is set for this Thursday.

The $2.8 million building at 9312 West Smith Street opened November 4. At 6 p.m. Thursday, a ribbon-cutting and public open house takes place.

"Though the Town Hall is already open and operating, we're excited to invite the community to this open house to explore the entire building," said Town Manager Pete Olsen. "This town hall has been in the making for a while now and it's great to finally see it realized."

About 10,000 people call the Delaware County town home. Yorktown is located southwest of Muncie on State Road 32, the route between Muncie and Anderson.

The new building puts several town offices under one roof for the first time. "Yorktown was in need of a large space like this for town offices and public spaces," said Olsen. "Having everyone under one roof not only improves communications between offices, but the location also makes us more accessible to the community."
