MARION, Ind. – A child was killed Thursday night after she was run over by a van in Marion.

Marion police said a 3-year-old girl got behind the wheel of a van and put the gear in neutral, which rolled over and killed a 4-year old girl on South Curfman Road around 7 p.m.

The 4-year-old, Java Horton-Webb, was playing on a plastic horse when the van knocked her off and ran her over. The girls’ mothers ran outside as soon as they noticed the vehicle moving, police said.

She was flown to Marion General Hospital, then to Lutheran Hospital where she died. Police and the Department of Child Services said they will continue to investigate the incident.
