WESTFIELD, Ind. -- A Hamilton County Sheriff's deputy and his K-9 partner tracked down a suicidal person in a wooded area near MacGregor Park on Friday.

Deputy Neal Hoard and his K-9 partner Scout were dispatched shortly before 12:30 p.m. to assist in the search for the person.

The vehicle belonging to the person was found at MacGregor Park north of Westfield. Scout was able to pick up the person's scent from the door handle.

After a 45-minute search through wind and rain, Scout tracked the scent more than 1.5 miles away, eventually locating the person.

Officers were then able to detain the suicidal person and transport them to receive medical attention.
