HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. -- The Carmel Fire Department along with the police department will host a Safety Day on Saturday, September 16, where they will show and explain to people the important tasks that they do on a daily basis.
The all-day event beginning at 10 a.m. will be held at St. Vincent Carmel Hospital.
The fire department will demonstrate someone being extracted from a car and actually airlift someone from the building.
Additionally, a Carmel police officer, who is also a Blackhawk helicopter pilot, will fly and land a helicopter in the parking lot of the hospital for children and everyone else to see.
Carmel firefighter Tim Griffin says, “It’s important for people to see and hear what it sounds like when we use machinery to, for instance, cut people out of cars. Because it can be a scary sound and people panic. But those are life-saving sounds.”
This event is free and will most likely run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Griffin says.
