FISHERS, Ind. – Those living in Fishers could soon welcome a new 500,000 square-foot free recreation center.

A proposal details plans for Fishers Sports Complex to be built near the east side of Olio Road and 136th Street. The facility will feature two floors totaling 512,000 square feet.

The first floor will offer 245,000 square feet of turf sports fields, 12 hard surface courts, a separate turf area with 17,000 square feet and a multi-use fitness center. The second floor will feature a viewing area concourse, a half mile walking and jogging track, a family lounge and office space.

Although youth sports leagues and tournaments will primarily use the facility, more than 11,500 hours per year will be dedicated for public use.

Fishers will provide lease payment to the developer, GK Sports/Fishers Sports pavilion LLC, and in exchange will receive an office space for Fishers Parks and Recreation, storage space, the option to host three tenants per year and 100 percent of revenues from a $1 ticket fee instated during all youth sports tournaments.

The project was presented at the Finance Committee meeting on Aug. 16.
