Local veterans to receive free dental care on Veterans Day

Posted

FISHERS, Ind. -- By the fall of 2016, Sgt. Charlie Alcorn was not proud to show his smile, always doing his best to hide his missing teeth. For many who have served in the military, even basic dental care is simply out of the question because of its cost.

That all changed when he learned Village Dental at Saxony was holding its first-ever military appreciation day. The practice provided free dental care for men and women who have served in the U.S. armed services.

“I didn’t really know what to expect,” he said in an emotional video about his experience. “I knew for myself that I needed a lot of work done.”

Alcorn served in the U.S. Army from 1974-1977, including a two-year deployment overseas. He said the kindness shown to him by staff was worth every sacrifice he made while serving.

“It was just overwhelming that (you guys) were willing to do that for me. It makes me proud that I served for good people,” he told staff, fighting back tears. “There (are) good people. I just always felt so comfortable here.”

Alcorn said the staff always remembered his name during follow-up visits, which meant a lot to him.

On Saturday, November 11, military veterans with stories like Alcorn’s will once again have an opportunity to receive dental care at no cost. From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Village Dental will open its doors to service members in honor of Veterans Day.

“It just means a lot,” Alcorn said. “It’s good to know that there’s still good people. It’s nice to be able to smile without having to hide my teeth that I didn’t have. It’s been such a blessing.”

Village Dental is located at 13578 E. 131st Street in Fishers. Veterans interested in receiving dental care can call 317.773.5833 to schedule an appointment.
