FISHERS, Ind. -- Students at one elementary school in Fishers are working to help elementary students in Houston.
Hoosier Road Elementary is collecting school supplies to send to Braeburn Elementary in Texas, which was hit hard by Hurricane Harvey. Students and staff there have been relocated to an abandoned high school building.
Hoosier Road students, kindergarten through fourth grade, are packing a semi-truck full of supplies to send to Texas on Monday, September 25.
“It's very important. There was like a flood four-feet high, as tall as a teacher! Think of it that way," said Ashley Delauter, a first grader at Hoosier Road. “You have a safe place at home and have a safe place at school. And both of those places are ruined.”
The public can drop donations off at Hoosier Road Elementary, located at 11300 East 121st Street in Fishers, through Friday, September 22, and from 8 a.m. - noon on Saturday, September 23.
At least six other elementary schools in the district will be collecting donations to assist with Hoosier Road’s effort. Hamilton Southeastern High School has also adopted”a school in need located in Katy, TX.
