HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. -- A bus driver for Hamilton Southeastern Schools, who tested positive for alcohol use after driving students to school, resigned from her position.
Officials with the school district said the driver, who has not been identified, resigned during the termination process last week. The resignation became official Monday night when the board voted to pass the consent agenda.
In early November, an alert sent to parents with students in the district said they received a tip that one of their bus drivers may have been under the influence of a controlled substance while driving students.
The driver was taken to the district's health center for drug and alcohol testing and was sent home after she tested positive.
The Fishers Police Department was contacted and is investigating, but police say because they did not witness any crimes or administer the test themselves it could be difficult to file criminal charges.
The driver had been with the district since 1997. Hamilton Southeastern Schools said she has 92 students assigned to her route which services Hamilton Southeastern School, Fall Creek Junior High School and Brooks Elementary School.
