NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – Neighbors in a Noblesville community are fighting to save trees in a subdivision as the city may have plans to remove them by next July.
Noblesville city officials said many trees in the Oakmont Subdivision are unhealthy, unsafe and are forcing sidewalks to crack. Homeowners disagree and want to keep the trees in their neighborhood.
Initially, city officials admitted to making a mistake by tagging more than 100 trees to be removed. That number was decreased to 59.
The city of Noblesville released a statement:
“The project does not have to do with ADA funding, but being ADA compliant. An Oakmont resident fell this summer on the sidewalks. The city is liable for the uneven sidewalk and has an expectation to make sure it is safe for everyone. Again, no decisions have been made by the mayor or council to proceed with tree removal.”
A public city meeting is scheduled for Tuesday evening at 6 p.m.
