HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. -- Former participants of Greenfield’s Riley Festival Children’s Flower Parade are invited back to walk in this year’s parade- no matter their age!
In honor of the parade’s 60th anniversary, organizers are encouraging anyone who marched in the parade, which started in 1957, as a part of their Riley Festival to return.
The event follows years of traditions in the celebration of the birth date of James Whitcomb Riley, the “Hoosier Poet.”
According to the festival’s website, it begins every year on the first Thursday of October.
Residents of Greenfield, Hancock County and the surrounding area join talent and resources annually to honor the memory of Greenfield’s noted native son.
The festival is one of the largest in the state of Indiana, both in attendance and in exhibitors. This year, it will be taking place from October 5th through 8th.
Flower Parade alumni are asked to register for the parade by Wednesday, October 4th at 4 p.m. on theRiley Festival website.
Participants will receive a bib and number at the Pennsy Trail and are asked to bring real flowers. Anyone with questions is asked to call 317-462-2141.
