FORTVILLE, Ind. -- The Fortville Police Department granted a special wish for one young citizen on Monday.

Lizzie is now an honorary officer.

The department stepped up after they say Officer Kingery met Lizzie at a Make-A-Wish Gala where she was getting her wish granted.

Her mother later reached out to the department saying her daughter couldn’t stop talking about the meeting and wanted to be a police officer one day.

Lizzie was sworn in and given her own uniform shirt with her name on it and then she got to ride around town in a cruiser with the lights and sirens on.

"Lizzie is an awesome young lady and we look forward to our friendship we have made for many years to come," the Fortville Police Department posted on their Facebook page.
