HANCOCK COUNTY — An early-evening crash Friday left one person dead and two others injured in Hancock County.

According to the Hancock County Sheriff's Department, the head-on crash happened at about 5:45 p.m. in the area of County Road 200 North and Sugar Creek Trail — about two miles west of Greenfield.

The crash involved a 2016 Nissan Altima and a 2012Volkswagen Passant.

Investigators say the Altima, with only the driver aboard, left the road and hit a guardrail. The impact forced the car back into opposing traffic where it crashed head-on into the Passant.

The driver of the Altima, Lisa Pinner, 49, of Greenfield, was dead at the scene of the crash. A husband and wife in the Passant did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

Investigators say they don't know yet why the Altima went out of control and it's unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor.

It took about three hours to reopen the road to traffic.
