Indiana family will make Rose Bowl Parade

INDIANAPOLIS -- A Hoosier who gave the gift of life will be honored at this year's Rose Bowl parade, and her mom and sister will be there to see it – thanks to an anonymous benefactor.

Jennifer Spurgeon died in 2009 after a fire in Fort Wayne. Her organs were donated to three people.

Jennifer is one of three people who will have their images on the "Donate Life" float at the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California.

Her mother and sister, Rhonda Berger and Krista Hardbeck, were supposed to be special guests at the parade, but they weren't able to fly out of Indianapolis on Tuesday because of the travel mess caused by bad weather across the country.

"This isn't just about the Rose Bowl Parade and the float," Krista Hardbeck said. "We were going to go out and meet donor families."

After RTV6 aired their story, Berger and Hardbeck were contacted by Southwest Airlines to let them know they would have flights to California after all.

The family says Southwest was contacted by someone from the Nevada Donor Network who saw RTV6's story posted on social media.

They will leave for California Thursday morning.
