Avon police need your help to get a new K-9 unit on the force

AVON, Ind. -- The Avon Police Department is asking for the public's help to add more paws to their patrol.  

The agency has been entered into an online competition to receive funding to purchase an additional K-9 unit to help patrol the community.

The funding comes from "Aftermath K9 Grant" and this year the grant totals $15,000.

First place gets $5,000, Second place gets $4,000 thousand, third place gets $3,000, fourth place gets $2,000 and fifth place gets $1,000. 

Officers and community members nominate their local department and then the public votes.

The Aftermath K9 Grant was founded to showcase, support, and reward the unique contributions made by law enforcement and their K9 units across the country. 

Once voting period begins, votes can be made by legal residents of the United States who are 8 years of age or older at time of entry.

You can vote for Avon Police through November 7. The winning department will be announced on November 10.
