Donation drive helps military dogs find loving homes

Posted

BROWNSBURG, Ind. – Finding a loving home for dogs that have served in the military is a priority for United States War Dogs Association.

The organization paired up with Pet Valu in Brownsburg to raise money to help the animals find the right owners.

Abel, a German Shepherd who served as a patrol dog in Korea found his match to be John Meeks, an Army veteran.

“Sometimes I give him an order and he looks at me like ‘hey, I’m retired. I don’t have to listen,’” said Meeks.

Abel reminds Meeks of his last dog named Artis, who was killed while the two were in the Vietnam War.

“Saved my life countless times,” said Meeks.
