HENRY COUNTY, Ind. -- The city of New Castle is mourning the loss of Police Chief Bradley Catron.
Catron died unexpectedly Monday night at Henry Co. Memorial Hospital.
Mayor Greg York says Catron had knee surgery three weeks ago and then returned to work.
On Dec. 15, the police chief got very sick while working at a New Castle basketball game.
"Nauseous sick. He literally threw up three or four times and passed out at the ball game," said Mayor York.
Sheriff's deputies have been covering patrols in New Castle while the city's 30 police officers focus on laying their chief to rest.
Henry County Sheriff Richard McCorkle had known Catron for nearly 30 years.
"I'll miss that camaraderie. I'll miss that joke. I'll miss that phone call in the middle of the morning that says, 'I've had enough, you want a break?' I'll miss that," said Sheriff McCorkle.
Catron, 52, leaves behind a wife and two grown children.
He had been with New Castle police for 29 years and served the last six as chief.
"He served our community well with honor and respect and will be deeply missed," said Mayor York.
Visitation will take place on Friday, December 22, from 2 - 8 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 709 S. Memorial Dr., in New Castle.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 23, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church as well.
